Hiking at Mount Talbert Nature Park

Slip into Mount Talbert Nature Park to explore the four-mile trail network, check out the views and enjoy a picnic. Keep your eye out for deer, Western gray squirrels, pileated and hairy woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatches and Western tanagers. Mount Talbert is the largest in a string of extinct volcanoes and lava domes that stretches across the east side of the region.

See and do

• Hike the trails; some are steep.
• Eat a picnic in the shelter, available for rent year-round. Reservations are required for parties of 25 or more.
• Enjoy the Mather Road trailhead, with a short gravel trail and interpretive display near a small native prairie.
• Watch for native and migrating wildlife.

Know when you go

• The park is open from sunrise to sunset.
• Find restrooms, picnic tables and an accessible trail at the main, Mather Road entrance.
• Parking area, restrooms, picnic shelter and a short gravel trail are wheelchair accessible.
• Other hiking trails are single track and range in steepness.

• Bikes are not allowed in the park.
• Dogs and other pets are not allowed, because they can damage sensitive habitat and threaten wildlife.
• Smoking and vaping are not allowed.
• Hunting is not allowed.
• Drones, model planes, model boats and other remote-controlled vehicles are not allowed.
• Geocaching is allowed with guidelines.
• During inclement weather, please check oregonmetro.gov/parks for information about any closures.

Another entrance with parking is south of Southeast Sunnyside Road, at 117th Avenue.
