Description

Climb the steep, fir-lined road to the parking lot atop this extinct lava dome. From there, you can walk a loop trail or enjoy lunch under a handsome picnic shelter.

If you ever visited the Boy Scouts lodge that used to stand here, you might recognize salvaged pieces. Although the land is now a public park, its spirit of adventure remains.

Scouters Mountain Nature Park was protected and opened through a partnership among Metro, the City of Happy Valley and the North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District.

See and do

  • Eat a picnic in the shelter. Picnic shelter is available for rental year-round. Reservations are required for parties of 25 or more.
  • Enjoy views of the surrounding valley and, in the distance, Mount Hood.
  • Walk through a forest with trees more than a century old, including some that have grown here for 220 years. The trail through the forest is about a mile long. A quarter-mile loop at the top of the hill is wheelchair accessible.
  • Explore throughout the year for different highlights: trillium and wood violets in the spring, dazzling views during summer, mushrooms in the fall, Pacific wren calls when winter arrives.
